Dr. Daniela Wilson, FMS member and assistant professor at the Radboud University, was yesterday awarded with the first NWO Athena Award, during the 2015 edition of CHAINS in Veldhoven.
With the annual Athena Award, NWO Chemical Sciences aims to put the spotlight on outstanding female chemists, that perform excellent scientific research. In the Netherlands, the percentage of females working in science and engineering sciences decreases as the the position is higher. For example, women are underrepresented in the assistant professor, associate professor and professor ranks. In promoting the scientific careers of female researchers, an important role is played by female scientists who serve as role models for young researchers at the beginning of their career. To draw more attention to these role models NWO Chemical Sciences has, starting from 2015, initiated the annual Athena Award.
Dr. Daniela Wilson is assistant professor at the Institute for Molecules and Materials (IMM) at the Radboud University. Daniela received an ERC Starting Grant in 2012 to establish an independent research group investigating nanomotors with autonomous propulsion in biological systems.
